Irene Dominique Pascual, a junior high school student and Gerard Angelo Samillano, a senior high school student, bested more than 20 other contestants for the Compass Center for Leadership Essay Writing Contest for the month of September with the theme: The Next Filipino Leaders.

The winning entry, How Dare We, written by Pascual from the Philippine Women’s University – Jose Abad Santos Memorial School, talked about the next Filipino leader understanding the very essence of “humanity”.

On the other hand, the other winning entry, The Right Mix by Samillano from Senator Renato Compañero Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School, discussed the perfect blend of leadership that our national heroes possessed and which the youth needs to achieve as well.

The Compass Center for Leadership (CCLMG) launched a monthly essay writing contest last July with the aim to gather the ideas and opinion of the youth regarding the topics that concern them and the society. For the month of September, essay entries about ‘The Next Filipino Leader’ were received from all over the Philippines.

For the month of October, CCLMG will be opening another essay writing contest with the theme: The Teacher Who Inspired Me. This contest, aligned with the celebration of the National Teachers’ Month, will be dedicated to teachers and mentors who deserve recognition for their commitment to learning.
